PalTrade Gaza Office Holds Technical Meeting with UNDP Team

The Palestine Trade Center (PalTrade) Gaza Office held a technical meeting with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) team to discuss ways to work together and respond to economic and development needs in the Gaza Strip, amid rapid changes in the economic situation and the needs of the next phase.

UNDP was represented by Amjad Al-Shawa, Director of Programmes and Deputy Special Coordinator, alongside Programme Managers Tarek Shtayt and Raafat Abu Shaaban. PalTrade was represented by Vice Chair of the Board Taysir Al-Ustaz; Board Members Faisal Al-Shawa, Salah Abu Hasira, and Rami Al-Dreamli; and Gaza Office Programmes Manager Mohammad Skaik.

During the meeting, Skaik outlined PalTrade’s priorities for the next phase. He emphasized the importance of gradually moving from emergency response toward practical efforts to stimulate economic activity, support the private sector, preserve existing jobs and create new ones, and help businesses resume operations based on the needs of Gaza’s market and private sector.

Amjad Al-Shawa stressed the importance of stronger coordination and partnership with the private sector and local economic institutions. He noted that the next phase calls for closer cooperation among stakeholders and for programmes and interventions to be designed around actual priorities and needs on the ground.

Taysir Al-Ustaz highlighted the central role of the Palestinian private sector in economic recovery. He emphasized the need to involve businesses in setting priorities and designing interventions so that responses reflect the needs of the economy and support the gradual resumption of business activity.

The two sides agreed to continue technical discussions and identify priority areas for cooperation, bringing together the expertise of international institutions and the local knowledge of the Palestinian private sector to support economic activity and recovery in the Gaza Strip.
